Ancillary task - Film Poster.
Posters are mainly used when it comes to advertisement, they are made in mass order and are usually up to a large scale, this is mainly to be able to display them on walls, buses and outside cinemas to get the message across. Most posters I have researched have including graphical and textual elements to get the right message across, however a minority of film posters have just graphical or textual elements that doesn't give away too much of the films plot. Posters are designed to be informative and eye catching, this is a main element for advertising.
- Imagery of the main characters.
- The title of the film in big bold writing, in the central poster.
- The main actors names.
- A catchy slogan.
- A release date.
- The company.
- The director.

Codes and Conventions of a movie poster.
Poster draft one and analysis.
In my first poster draft I will have a long shot of the 2 main characters. They will be in a park as a park represents freedom and it is a public place so you are more likely to meet someone new there. Its going to be a sunny day as it creates happiness and love in a shot. The 2 main characters are going to be the main purpose for the shot for advertisement reasons and for the audience to get to know the main characters so they can really connect with them. Which will make the short film more successful for the company and will make the film more enjoyable for the audience.

Creating my poster.
I have used photoshop in order to create my short film poster. First of all I have started off with a basic image of the leading girl, I have contrasted the colours of the photo in order to make it brighter.
I then had to do the exact same to the other main image in the poster while using the same magic tool.
After I had successfully placed the 2 images in the correct places. I then began to type the title of desperado...
I then used the magic tool in order to cut the image well and to get rid of the background, I then softened up the edges and I also used highlights and shadows to edit the picture, this was the end result so far.
I then had to do the exact same to the other main image in the poster while using the same magic tool.
Once I had finished cutting the image using the magic tool I then had to decide where to place the image to make sure it fitted properly on the poster.
I decided with a fancy font in order to make it look romantic, I then decided on the colour of the text. I decided to make the text red and to keep the background white as red and white contrasts with each other and represents love and purity, it's different from my planned poster and not all the images would fit on the page scale and also while creating the short film I started to change my plot so I think this poster fits better with the story line.
This was the end result.
Then to make the poster fit in with my genre more I then decided to have fun with the shape and lines tool and create 2 love hearts to go in-between the characters to show that there was love towards each other, this again was my end result.

Ancillary Task - Magazine Review.
The reason why magazine reviews are formed is because it's a chance to provide audiences and the public information regarding an upcoming film. Magazine reviews are good sources to use when indicating whether a film is watch worthy as many critics write their opinions on the text. One aspect of a magazine review is to provide the synopsis of the film, but each magazine review is different as the level of detail of the synopsis changes regarding to which magazine review and who has written it. However it is argued that the more vague the synopsis review is the better as the less detail given away about the short film is best. This is because if a magazine review gave away the whole synopsis of the film, there would be no point in going to watch it. However it is important to give some level of detail just to get a rough feel about what the film is about and where it is going to give an idea on what theme it is.
Also another main aspect of a film magazine review is the interviews. Many magazine reviews carry out structured interviews with certain actors that appear in the film and most importantly the director of the film. This is important as it helps explain why the film was made in a certain way with the director interview. Also interviewing the actors is important as they explain how fun it was to make etc.
In conclusion magazine reviews are important when it comes to film as it helps the films marketing as magazines reach a wide range of many different types of people, so therefore it helps to get people to watch the film. However little criticism is used when developing a film magazine review as the review is used to promote the product in order to create more sales.

Magazine review codes and conventions.

A star rating is a vital convention in a film magazine review. It's the experts telling audiences whether the film is any good from a professional point of view. So it will then allow for audiences to make up their own minds whether to see the film or not. So for example films with lower ratings in magazines may have a lower in take with the box office compared to those with a higher rating.

Hand made magazine review.
This is the over all lay out I would like my finished magazine review to look like, I would like to have a nice balance of text and a couple of still shots, but not too many as I wouldn't want to give my short film away.
On the top left hand corner I will have the title in black bold font. Underneath I will have a critics rating on how they rated my short film out of 5 stars *****? By the side of the rating I will have the critics review on my short film, using comparisons to ones that the critics have seen.
In my magazine review I will have photos of the scenes the critics are taking about.
Also on the bottom right hand corner I will have a similar to column so it will show and list and explain all the short films that are similar to mine as that's what i found out during my research of magazine reviews.

Creating my magazine review.
I started off using Illustrator in order to create my magazine review. I started off with typing the basic ' The film critic' as an over all headline just like the spiderman magazine review had done within my research and planning.
I then started to change the colours of the backgrounds in order to make them stand out. Also i used a red strip at the end of the box in order to fit the love genre as red represents love.
I then used the same photo as I used for my poster in order to make my ancillary pieces match, I want my audience to be able to look at both of the pieces of texts and know that they are for the same short film. I think using one of the images is a creative way of doing it, It also helps for advertisement purposes.
I then had to make the image transparent so then it would go over the title in order to make it look more professional and neater.
I then used the rectangle tool in order to create the critics score. I used the same colours of my title in order to make them match. I then made the love hearts at the bottom through using the shape tools and the line tools in order to create a border that made the magazine review fit into the love genre.
I then added the star review by using the shape tool once again. I then added the 'Desperado' title in the same font and colours as my poster, once again to make them match to the audience. I then added the magazine review text in a black font to make it formal and in an easy to red Arial font. On the right hand side theres quotations from news papers and critics. I decided to put them in a different font as it makes them look important and what critics say about a short film is the most important part of the review. This is the end design.
